The Christmas Tag 2018

The Christmas Tag 2018 - image of a christmas tree made up of stars and then the text that says The Christmas Tag 2018
Since we’re now in December, I’m starting to feel a little bit Christmassy. I wanted to get myself even more into the Christmas spirit by doing The Christmas Tag 2018. I took some questions from a few different blogs and made them into one tag. Enjoy!
If you’d like to do this tag yourself, feel free! I’ve made it easy for you to do so by putting the questions all together, at the end of my blog post, so it’s easier for you to copy and paste.

1. What is your favourite Christmas film?

My favourite Christmas film is ‘The Muppets Christmas Carol’. You can read about why I like that film and my other favourites in the post I made last year, here.

2. Do you open your presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?

I’ve always opened my presents on Christmas morning. It’s always seemed strange when other people do it differently. Some people even save presents for after Christmas dinner! I wouldn’t have patience for that now, let alone as a kid. I’d have been a demon child if I was told I had to wait until after dinner to open some more presents.

3. Do you have a favourite Christmas memory?

I have random memories of general silliness. My memory is absolutely atrocious as it is and the stuff I do remember is super weird. Like, I remember sneaking chocolate from the Roses tin with my sister (on more than one occasion). Or sticking Christmas bows all over my grandad who was fast asleep. Small silly memories.

4. Favourite festive food?

It would have to be gingerbread. I don’t eat it very often, but when I do it’s so good. One year my fiancé and I made an epic gingerbread house from a Mary Berry recipe online. It was our first attempt at making a gingerbread house from scratch and it came out amazing. It was a lot of work though!

5. Favourite Christmas gift?

I’ve had a lot of amazing presents over the years, so it feels unfair to try to single one out. But, when I was a kid, I think I was probably the most chuffed when I got a PSOne. Even if my nan did sulk because she didn’t get one and she locked herself in the car out the front and refused to come back in. I wish I was making that up!

6. Favourite Christmas scent?

Again, it’s probably gingerbread. The smell of gingerbread is absolutely gorgeous. One year I’m going to get a gingerbread scented candle or something.

7. Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?

My fiancés birthday is on Christmas Eve, so our day is centred around that really. After we wake up, I watch him open his presents. Then, we figure out what we’re doing for breakfast and afterwards we get ready. We usually end up making and eating party food once we’re both ready, which is followed by eating cake, drinking and watching something on the telly together.

8. Is your Christmas tree real or fake?

Before I met my fiancé it was always a fake tree for me, however, he was used to real ones. We have had a real one a couple of times now, just so it wasn’t always me getting my way. I think we might try to have a real one again this year. I just hate having to hoover up the needles. Our male cat likes to eat the Christmas tree too, real or fake. Once, I found tinsel in his poo because he had been eating the tree.. a very festive poo indeed.

9. What tops your tree?

It’s always a star. We have one that lights up, which is pretty cute. I’ve always wanted an Angel for the top of the tree though, but I’ve yet to find one that doesn’t look granny-bashing or hideous.

10. As a kid, what was the one (crazy, wild, extravagant) gift you always asked for but never received?

I don’t think I ever asked for anything wild. I probably asked for a pet of my very own a million times though. A cat was out of the question.

11. What’s the best part about Christmas for you?

I love seeing family and the general happiness most seem to have at Christmas. I do understand that Christmas isn’t always a happy time for everyone though..

12. Are you a pro-present wrapper, or do you fail miserably?

I consider myself pretty awesome at wrapping, as long as it’s box shaped! Anything oddly shaped always ends up looking like I asked a kid to wrap it.

13. Be honest: do you like giving gifts or receiving gifts better?

It depends. If I know the gift I got someone is awesome and I’m sure they’re going to love it, then that’s super exciting and I love that. However, if it’s a boring gift and I’m not sure about it, then I’m a bit apprehensive. I love receiving gifts too, though. Especially if I know it’s from someone who knows me pretty well, or someone who ordered me gifts from my wishlist.. otherwise it can be a bit of a bust and I’m not terribly excited about it. I’m going to say I like receiving gifts more than giving them. I know, I’m a horrible person!

14. Do you do anything on New Year’s eve?

Nope. Sometimes I watch the Fireworks on the telly, but as I’ve got older I find it a little pointless and just want to go to bed.

15. Do you make New Year’s resolutions? Do you stick to them?

I have done in the past. I think now I’ve realised though, that they never stick. Plus, I think that any changes you make to yourself or your life should just happen when you are ready. You don’t need it to be the start of the year to do something. You are more likely to stick with it when you feel ready in your own mind and not because it’s expected.

I hope you enjoyed reading The Christmas Tag 2018 and I hope you are all doing well.

This was a fun tag. We always had a real tree and when I moved out of my parents house I kept up thay tradition. Until I lived in a 2nd floor flat(!), it got difficult carrying one up the stairs, so I have a fake one now. But I still love the smell or a real tree. My sister and I used to sneak Christmas tree chocolates – one year she ate them all but left the empty wrappers hanging on the tree!

Ooh yeah, I couldn’t imagine lugging a tree up the stairs.. that sounds a nightmare. We got a real tree again this year, but it’s pretty rare for us to have a real one.

It’s a fun activity sneaking chocolates with your sis, huh?! I love that yours left empty wrappers on the tree though, that’s so funny.

Thanks for coming by, reading and commenting, lovely ♥

I loved reading your answers and some cute memories as a little girl. I am glad these kind of tags exist as I love reading them. We don’t celebrate Christmas but I love this time of the year. we always go for vacation and I have my birthday. 🙂

Awww, love the tag. The question 10 is funny. I’ve answered a bit like you, as in I wanted a pet as a child. But, as I already had a small dog, the pet I was asking for was a bit bigger… a cow, the second option being a horse, obviously. As we were living in a flat, it didn’t happen, obviously.
I agree with you on the gifts too. Just fab! Merry Christmas xx
