I’m really sorry it’s taken me a little while to get a post out, I have been suffering badly with an extreme migraine that has lasted 5 days. It’s still not fully gone, but it’s way better than it was. Anyway, since I’ve been in a lot of pain and forced to lay in bed with an eye mask on I’ve not had an opportunity to do much.. however, I had watched a lot of Netflix prior to my migraine hitting. I thought I would take the time to talk about what I’ve been watching lately.
This Netflix original TV series was really good. If you liked Breaking Bad then chances are you will like Ozark. It does take a couple of episodes to get into though. There are a few episodes where the action is fast paced and everything seems to be happening, which keeps you gripped. The series revolves around a family forced into money laundering for a Mexican drug lord and all that it entails. I think there was only one episode that I didn’t particularly enjoy and that’s because it just felt like a filler episode.. a calm before the storm if you like. There is only one season currently, but I heard it’s been renewed for another season.. which I’m super excited for. I definitely recommend this series if you’re looking for something in a similar vein to Breaking Bad and you have some time on your hands.
Stranger Things – Season 2
The series everyone on the Internet seems to be talking about! If you’ve not seen Stranger Things then you’re missing out, you may also want to skip what I have to say in case I spoil anything for you. I adore this series and watching the relationships between all the characters develop more was not a disappointment in the second season. I particularly enjoyed the father/daughter type of relationship between Eleven and Hopper.
The episode/storyline about Eleven’s sister felt super unnecessary and took me completely out of the Stranger Things universe. It definitely felt like they were reaching for a way to separate Eleven from the town for her to come back and save the day. Eleven lost her uniqueness in that episode too, and it made me wonder how many more are out there with powers and I sincerely hope there are no more. If there are more out there then it will ruin the show. That whole episode was probably the only episode that I disliked and that felt out of place, though it did lead to Eleven having a bad ass makeover (which led to some awesome scenes).
Now, don’t get me wrong, I loved the series and I was super sad when I finished and had no more to watch.. but I had wished that season two had been a completely new strange situation for them to be in, it makes me wonder where else they can possibly go with the whole upside down in the next season. Now we only have to wait another whole year to watch the next one probably.
Beyond Stranger Things
If you loved Stranger Things and you were also completely gutted when it finished, this is a good watch. It’s basically a host talking to the creators and actors of the show about everything that happened in season two, so definitely watch this after and not before. I just wish they had included bloopers or extra scenes and stuff. It was also a shame that some actors weren’t able to be present for the filming. I’m glad they did this though, and I wish that they did this type of thing for more TV series.
Jack Whitehall: Travels With My Father
A hilarious Netflix original series, which sees Jack Whitehall try to enjoy a “gap year” with his father. Jack’s father is very reluctant to be there and because of how posh he is this makes for some super funny situations and conversations. I really enjoyed it. It reminded me a lot of Idiot Abroad (with Karl Pilkington) and the only thing I didn’t like about this series was that they didn’t travel to more places together. Highly recommend this series if you’re looking for a good laugh.
Jack Whitehall At Large
After watching Jack Whitehall’s series with his father, I fell down a rabbit hole of watching Jack Whitehall related things.. this is his Netflix original stand-up show and was just a fun stand-up show to watch.
What I’ve been hating:
The Good Place – Season 2
After I raved about Season 1 in my last post, I am so sad to say that I couldn’t even finish the first episode of Season 2. It started off so bad and was just awful and now I’m wishing they had finished the series at the end of Season 1. The storyline was weak and the characters/actors didn’t seem to be as enthused as they were before, it was like even the actors knew it sucked. Perhaps it gets better, but it just didn’t even seem like the same series to me.
I tried to give this a go and it just left me feeling irritated. The beginning started strong and I thought it was going to be amazing, but it soon rapidly deteriorated and the language used throughout didn’t seem natural to me. It felt as if they were sticking long words into the dialogue wherever possible, leaving me scratching my head at why they decided to do that. When used right long words that don’t appear much in vocabulary can be profound, but when they are crammed in constantly it just loses realism for me. I know that it’s set in a different time period, but it still didn’t seem necessary. It got boring quick too! I couldn’t even get through the first episode.. maybe it gets better, but for me it was a hard no.
