The lovely people at Pure Pet Food* sent me over two boxes of their very unique freeze dried cat food for my two cats to trial. This is my cats experience with it!
What makes Pure Pet Food unique?
It’s freeze dried! I’ve never seen cat food that was freeze dried before, so it immediately piqued my interest. My cats have had experience with freeze dried treats, but not actual wet food. I was very curious to see what they’d both make of it.
What Pure Pet Food sent over
Two different flavours arrived, “Whisker Lickin’ Chicken” and “Surf & Turf”. Both boxes arrived a little beat up (so excuse the boxes not looking that pretty) but the contents inside are completely fine so that’s all that really matters, right?
Pure Pet Food is a complete freeze dried cat food that is made with six, fresh and healthy ingredients.
What kind of cat is Pure Pet Food perfect for?
The food claims to be perfect for fussy and sensitive cats (which my cats definitely are) and it says it can be given to adult cats or kittens. It’s also said to be good for weight management (which my tubby male cat could very much benefit from).
I believe the whole concept behind Pure Pet Food is providing pet food that is of human quality, which is fantastic to see. Our furry pets are part of the family and it’s important to feed them as good a diet as possible.
How do you make it up?
It was really simple to prepare actually. I must confess that I was nervous when I opened the box and saw a scoop and a plastic bag of extremely interesting looking food.. I was worried that it was going to be complicated to prepare, but it wasn’t. All I did was read the back of the box, worked out how many scoops I needed to give my cats based on their weight. After that, I just added the relevant amount of water to the amount of scoops and mixed it up. Simple!
What my cats thought of it
Ideally you’d be better off introducing this food as slowly as possible to ensure a good transition to the new food. I was aware that I needed to get this review out as soon as possible and so therefore skipped the slow introductory period that is probably needed.
Initially I had problems getting my cats to eat it, my male cat was completely uninterested and walked away from it. My female cat started to nibble at it and seemed to enjoy it at first, but then she too walked away.
I think my approach of just giving them a totally new food was too scary of a concept for both of them, so my fiance and I decided to mix it in with some of their regular food too which seemed to make the whole experience less stressful for both them and us. They did eat it with a lot of coaxing and I’m sure if I’d had longer with this it would have been a fully successful transition.
Here’s some pictures of them tucking into it:
Would you give Pure Pet Food a try? Or have you tried Pure Pet Food before? They also have freeze dried pet food for dogs too, so it’s not just for cats!
