Birchbox September 2017 – x Oliver Bonas

This month’s Birchbox is a collaboration with Oliver Bonas. I got to choose my box design for this month, so I decided to go for this super cute pink face design, although, it was hard to choose between the two options because they were both good. The other box option was extremely colourful, but the pink one just caught my eye and drew me in. I lean towards pink more and more lately, when I was younger, I couldn’t stand pink! Plus, the whole, “Pink to make the boys wink” phrase irritated me and it made me pass it up, I didn’t want that kind of attention. Nowadays, I realise how silly that whole thing is and embrace my love of pink. I definitely don’t pick it to make anyone wink though!

So, what came in this box?

List of products that came in September's Birchbox in collaboration with Oliver Bonas

My favourite item in this month’s box, by far, is the Protect & Detangle spray. My hair gets super knotty and hard to brush after a shower, I have a great wet brush that helps immensely, but this spray just makes it that much easier to get those knots out. Not only does it help get the knots out of my hair, but it also protects from heat damage when blow drying and styling. I just wish it was bigger! I am not sure if I’d spend that much on the full size either, when I can probably find something cheaper that does something similar.

I’m a little disappointed that I essentially got two lip balms in this box.. I feel I’m not getting much in the way of makeup in my boxes and the makeup I am getting I don’t really like, so I’m probably going to try a different box in the future, purely for that reason. The lip balms are good, don’t get me wrong, I just wish I’d only received one of them and a makeup product in the place of the other lip balm.

The 3-in-1 Blush, Highlighter and Eyeshadow is interesting. I could easily use it for eyeshadow, but for blush and highlight it doesn’t look right on my skin tone, in my opinion.

As for the icy magic instant eye contour roller thing.. well, I can’t seem to get any product to come out. When I roll it on my under eye area, I feel like it’s just the cold from the silver roller ball that I’m feeling and not the actual product. I don’t particularly enjoy having to roll something hard over a delicate area either, it tugs and hurts, I would have rather applied with my finger tips. I think it could potentially damage this fragile area.

Also, included in the box, I got a code for some money off and some cute stickers. I wasn’t expecting either of those, so that was a nice surprise.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the box isn’t a bad box.. it’s just not my favourite. I like the design of the box, but the products in it could have been better.
