Today I’m talking highlighters, specifically the “Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Highlighter” in the colour “Golden lights”. Now I’m going to preface this review by saying that I’ve never used a highlighter prior to this, but I’d seen plenty of YouTube makeup tutorials where people have on different highlighters and it looks fantastic. I had to give it a go myself!
I had no idea what kind of highlighter I was going to get when I picked this.. well, actually, that’s not entirely true.. the highlighter I wanted to get was way too expensive for me to consider for my first one.. in fact, I was shocked at how expensive it was. So, I decided that to begin with I’d choose a more budget friendly one. At the time of writing this review it costs £5.45 on Amazon, which is more reasonable than the price of the other one I saw (by a long shot!)
I’d heard that using a fan brush was the best way to apply this stuff, but for me, I found that using my finger gave a much better look.. it was more concentrated and less dispersed. My fan brush is pretty huge though, so maybe that has something to do with it! I was a little bit worried when I received it as the colour looked darker than I thought and as an extremely pale person I was worried that it’d look more in your face and less subtle on me. Luckily, that wasn’t the case! It actually gives a nice shimmer over the top of my foundation once it’s rubbed in a bit.
How it looks on my skin here is how it looks before it’s rubbed in properly. I tried to rub it in but it’s hard to pick up on camera without hitting certain lights, which is difficult to achieve by myself. It glides on easily, has a nice shimmer and isn’t too cakey. There are other “colours” you can choose from too, which I stupidly didn’t know until after I bought this one.. but there’s also “Peach lights” and “Pink lights”.
I think I will definitely be adding this to my usual makeup routine, just to give a nice shimmery glow and make my makeup less flat and give me a bit of extra colour. If you want to give it a try yourself, you can buy it through Amazon by clicking the picture below. I take the effort out of searching for you! I know how irritating it is when a product is mentioned but you have no idea how to find it.
Is this something you’d try yourself? Do you use a highlighter? Have any recommendations for me to try? Let me know!
